The Midland Hi-Sky Radio Control Aircraft Club was
formed in 1970 with eight or nine RC flying enthusiasts. The
Club sponsored an emblem design contest soon after its
inception. E. J. Gardner won that contest and his design is
still used by the Club today.
In 1974, the flying field was officially moved to the present
site, which is Chapparal Raceway owned by "Jim
Hall"...World Famous Race car designer/builder/driver!
During the first few years of flying at Chapparal Raceway,
sometimes the flyers were asked to land in order for Mr.
Hall to test a new development on his race cars. The flyers
were more than happy to land knowing they were going to
get to see the latest and greatest in racing technology.
Improvements to this field included a covered picnic area,
port-a-potties and ample parking. The field was resealed in
2000.
